Financial Grants
The Jewish Federation of Greater Baton Rouge is offering financial educational assistance for displaced Jewish students from New Orleans. One-time grants of $ 1000 per student will be provided directly to the student's parents or in the case of college students to the student him/herself.
To qualify a student must:
- 1. Be Jewish
- 2. Have been a permanent resident of the Greater New Orleans area on August 29, 2005
- 3. Have been displaced from the Greater New Orleans area by Hurricane Katrina
PRE-K THRUGH 12TH GRADE MUST
- A. be enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade
- B. be enrolled in a Baton Rouge private school or East Baton Rouge Parish public school
COLLEGE STUDENTS MUST
- A. Have been enrolled in a college or university in the Greater New Orleans area on August 29, 2005
- B. Be currently enrolled in a college or university in Baton Rouge, Hammond, or Lafayette

Before the Capital City had a chance to recuperate from its storm damage, the Jewish Federation of Greater Baton Rouge in conjunction with local business leader Richard Lipsey and the Jewish Federation of New Orleans launched search and rescue missions in the Crescent City.
Armed with a list of names and addresses, the team traveled door to door to evacuate Jewish New Orleanians whose whereabouts were unknown. They located several Jewish and non-Jewish residents who had not escaped and returned the storm survivors safely to Baton Rouge. At least one evacuee was in critical condition. Nearly all the 10,000 Jewish New Orleanians have evacuated; they are housed literally from coast to coast. More...
