Temple Shalom - Lafayette
Visit Website
Jews began to immigrate to Vermilionville (the original name of Lafayette) in the early 1800s. They found an atmosphere in Vermilionville that spoke of opportunity for their skills, products, and services. Temple Rodeph Shalom was founded in 1869 as an orthodox synagogue. That same year Governor Alexandre Mouton donated land to be used as a cementery for the Jews of southwest Louisiana.

Rayner CenterThe Alfred G. Rayner Learning Center was started in 1984 in an effort to provide daily care for infants and young children. Today the school has evolved into a day care and learning center for pre-kindergarten children.

The Center has two goals: First, to provide safe, quality, professional care and supervision of the infants and young children entrusted to the school. Second, to initiate the educational process by providing a foundation of values and techniques of learning appropriate material for each age group. The Learning Center emphasizes Judaism, its customs and culture.

Non-Jewish students are welcome to participate in this program, and their diverse backgrounds are respected. The Rayner Center is located at Beth Shalom Synagogue, but operates as an independent organization.

Baton Rouge Chapter of Hadassah
Visit Website

HADASSAH, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, was founded in 1912 by Henrietta Szold. Since its inception, Hadassah has remained unwavering in its devotion to Judaism, Zionism, and American ideals.

As the largest volunteer organization and the largest women's organization in America, Hadassah is committed to strengthening the unity of the Jewish people. In Israel, we accomplish this through progressive healthcare, education, youth institutions, volunteerism, and land reclamation. In the U.S. we reach our goals through Jewish and Zionist education programs, Zionist Youth programs, and health awareness programs, as well as by advocating for issues of importance to women and to the American Jewish community.

I think we can agree that we all love a good story, one that inspires us by helping find meaning in our own lives. And, with over 3700 years of history behind us, the Jewish people have lots of inspiring stories to tell and listen to.

Every year the film festival highlights Jewish issues, traditions, challenges and characters that will resonate with our audiences whatever their background or beliefs. In addition, we will present filmmakers and speakers who will bring an added dimension to the dramas, documentaries, shorts, and animated films in our programs. http://brjff.com/
